Well, last time some cops showed us some love like this it was from a fine group of officers in Chicago whose site is now, sadly, defunct. (I didn't do it, honest). Those law enforcement professionals sure did send me some wonderful correspondence, so I can't wait to see if the NYPD represent themselves with as much professionalism as the good ole boys from the CPD showed me.
Oh, and speaking about how police officers love to hear criticism, for some unknown reason the police watchdog website RateMyCop.com is currently offline. You might recall how, last year, their hosting site shut them down and forced them to get a new host after cops started complaining about it... Maybe it happened again? Nobody's saying anything yet, so stay tuned...
UPDATE: RateMyCop is back online after apparently being the victim of a hacker.
I just can't seem to get the same fan base you attract.

Karl, I guess Carlos explained it for this instance at least. Thanks for that, Carlos... they must have a popular site, traffic is through the roof today.
ReplyDeleteAs one local officer said once, "I'm part of the largest gang in the US... the police!" guess he's right about that on a lot of levels.
But... maybe next time, give Karl's site a mention on that forum... I have a feeling that he's eager to give a piece of his mind to law enforcement officers who oppose reporting on police misconduct issues. ;)

So they won't threaten a former cop or even mention his site? This just proves that cops are big-time cowards, always going after the easier target. The childish comments (calling Carlos a 'Fucktard') show us that cops do not care about protecting and serving anything but their own EGO.
ReplyDeleteIt just all strikes me as strange every time I think about the times officers visit this site and take offense to it, especially the times when they go so far as to try and rally up their friends to go against the site or shut me down somehow.
ReplyDelete(yes, it's happened a few times, a Seattle cop apparently complained to Google about my site to try and get it shut down, then the supposed owner of the National Police Memorial fund or somesuch threatened to shut me down like he did some other site a few years back).
Seriously, when I read about some information technology professional who does something unethical or illegal, I don't get offended, nor do I automatically defend that person...
Heck, come to think of it, beyond cults and gangs, I can't think of anyone who would defend someone just because they work in the same field as that person, let alone want to harm those who report about it.

No I can't but then again I'm not a cop. If they had half a brain or a shred of conscience they would know it's the bad ones that hurt the citizens AND make them look bad. But no, they don't care. These apologists are not good cops. The bad ones know they can do whatever the hell they want because their brothers 'have their back' no matter what.

Well, I say apparently because a cop said that he tried to get me shut down on another local forum... whether he actually did try is up for debate.
ReplyDeleteHowever, around the time he said that we did have a day or two when the site was unavailable while all other blogspot sites I checked were fine.
All I know is that they will if they can and have said so before.
It's pathetic that google would bow down to some dumb vengeful cop. More people need to fight for their rights and the rights of others. I have a feeling they might if they knew the extent and degree of police corruption. That's why educating everyone on this topic is so important.

ReplyDeleteThough I do worry sometimes that I should check into other hosting options... just can't afford anything beyond free sites like blogger that would expose me to being shut down at the request of some police officer somewhere.
