27 Years

"He took my life away from me. What's the difference if it's by a gun, by words or by lies. What's gone is gone."
-James Woodard, exonerated by DNA evidence after 27 years of false imprisonment.

  1. At least the poor guy wasn't on death row. When is the US going to join the rest of the civilized world (Canada, the EU, Australia, etc.) and ban the death penalty?

I can't believe Americans are okay with the possibility of their country accidentally putting them to death.

Wish more people knew about Jury Nullification.

  2. Thank you for the comment.

To some, 27 years is a lifetime...

...and I would imagine that, at the end, such a long term of undeserved confinement can make it feel as though there is nothing left of your life to return to after you've finally been set free.

Check out the second installment of that story here where they talk about what happens to exonerees after they've been freed and left without help to readjust.

As for jury nullification, I agree with that... perhaps I'll write a bit on that later.

    Thanks again, and take care.
